The estate this came from had items from 60′s – 80′s. This piece looks very 70′s to me – clean, contemporary. I suppose the PPP label on the bottom with the Gardena, CA address may shed some light on to it’s age (as a current google search reveals that they do not operate out of this facitlity anymore). Weighted base makes it very sturdy/secure, which reduces the risk of it falling over, even if accidentally bumped. Of course, PPP are very well thought-out/engineered pieces built to survive commercial environments…. But equally stylish for the home. Examples of how it will look with your plant or scultpute in it. My bust sculpture is sitting inside the planter/well – you might choose to put a circular base marble, etc. On top of the stand if you use it as a pedestal so that your sculpture sits ON TOP, no INSIDE. There is some’bumpiness’ in the metal on the bottom side which appears to be a characteristic of the original manufacturing (ie: they didn’t buff out the underside which is not visible), NOT any kind of flaw or damage. This part of the base appears to be iron, which would account for the heaviness. On the outside walls of the planter/well, there is some minor paint loss from removing/replacing the well from the frame. Once it is pushed flush with the frame, this is not visible. On the interior bottom, there is some surface dust and’rust’ – it is not major, it does not distract from the piece, and it is barely visible unless you get down close to inspect it. A light sanding with some steel wool or very fine sandpaper would likely remove any trace at all, but I left as found – other than a quick dry dusting with a soft cloth. My best guess is that possibly, the center bar could be inserted into a nursery potted plant, and the holes allow drainage and it raises the pot slightly off the base of the well so the plant is not sitting in any water? Note, the little yellow piece in photo 11 is a dried fern leaf from my plant – it also shows up in photo 4. Not damage to the planter/well – just a yellow fern leaf!
