This particular piece is very unique with four metal hooks for hanging items. Judging by various features (design of the hardware, assymetrical measurements, oxidation, etc) this piece is estimated to be from the 19th Century. Please see the 11th and 12th pics for more details on the hardware. In my humble abode, there has been much speculation as to the type of wood… I believe it to be Rosewood – however, the other house mates have separately voted for mahogany, walnut, or oak. The metal piece that has been fashioned for hanging is interesting as it is appears to be a perfect cross… But after closer inspection and accurately measuring, we are surprised that it is not at all symmetrical – leading us to conclude that this piece was made by hand before the times of mass-produced factory made furniture. This piece measures as follows: Height: 17.5 inches Base (larger) circle: 6 inches in diameter Top (smaller) circle: 4 inches in diameter This is a piece from our personal collection that was given to us by a family friend. There appears to be a bit of waxy residue on the top circle. Since under our ownership, we have not used any sort of polish / wood treatment / etc on this piece thought it was best not to mess it up since we could never agree on the type wood… Feel free to ask questions although this is about all I know… I can try to help!
